Townships, Boroughs Across Southeastern Pennsylvania Declaring Snow Emergencies Ahead Of Powerful Winter Storm
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A winter storm warning is in effect for southeastern Pennsylvania as parts of the region could see 1 to 2 feet of snow. Townships and boroughs in the area are declaring snow emergencies ahead of the winter storm.
They include:
ALLENTOWN
Mayor Ray O'Connell is declaring a Snow Emergency in the City of Allentown effective at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 16, 2020. By ordinance, a "snow emergency," requires owners to remove their vehicles from posted routes. Signs are posted on snow emergency routes, which are also published on the city website, www.allentownpa.gov. Information on snow removal operations will be available at Snow Operations (allentownpa.gov). The city's "Snow Operations Hotline" will be staffed throughout the Snow Emergency at 610-437-7669.
Waste Management Wednesday night garbage collection in the city is cancelled.
BUCKINGHAM TOWNSHIP
Starting at 1:00 PM on December 16, 2020 a winter storm is predicted for our area. Snow, ice, and wind will be prevalent during the next 15 - 20 hours. As always our police department will be ready to serve our residents. We can all do our part during this snow emergency by:
- Getting what you need in order to stay home for the next 48 hours
- Keeping emergency routes clear for emergency vehicles
- Checking on elderly neighbors
- No unnecessary travel - each year police are put in danger by responding to accidents and stranded vehicles.

CHALFONT BOROUGH
The Chalfont Borough Mayor has declared a Snow Emergency for the Borough of Chalfont effective 1:00 PM today and continuing for the duration of the storm until clean up has been completed. Please do not park on Borough streets or you may be ticketed and towed. Click here for more information.
DOWNINGTOWN
A snow Emergency will be declared at 12 p.m. on Wednesday 12/16 by Mayor Dague in anticipation of a potentially large winter storm. There may be limited visibility at times if you are on the roadway with heavy wet snow that may cause power outages and downed trees. This will enact the Emergency Snow Declaration that permits the Police Department to have vehicles removed from the designated Emergency Snow Routes. After the declaration all vehicles must be removed within one hour. In order to maintain the safety and general welfare of all residents during these operations, vehicles will be towed when abandoned, inoperative, or when the owner is unwilling, or unable to move the vehicle. DOYLESTOWN TOWNSHIP
The Doylestown Borough Mayor has declared a Winter Storm Emergency for the Borough of Doylestown effective at 1 pm today and continuing for the duration of the storm until snow emergency routes have been cleared. FALLS TOWNSHIP
Based on the latest forecasts, we are declaring a Snow Emergency for Falls Township starting on Wednesday, 12/16/20 at 12:00 PM expiring on Thursday, 12/17/20 at 12:00 PM. The declaration requires all cars, trucks, boats, trailers, etc. to be moved off of every township street into your driveway or onto your property so plows and emergency vehicles can get down the street. Failure to comply can result in a ticket and/or towing, and we thank you in advance for your cooperation. FRANCONIA TOWNSHIP
As a result of the winter storm Gail, Franconia Township has declared a Snow Emergency effective immediately on December 16, 2020 and lasting until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday December 17, 2020. HATFIELD TOWNSHIP
Due to the severe winter storm forecasted for our region, a Snow Emergency has been declared for both Hatfield Township and Hatfield Borough, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Effective as of 12:00 PM today, December 16, 2020. It will remain in effect for the duration of the storm. Please remember these important tips to help members of Public Works and the Police Department to keep our roads safe and clear of snow: Remove your vehicle from the road during a snow emergency. HAVERFORD TOWNSHIP
Haverford Township has declared a Snow Emergency beginning at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 and ending at 3:00 PM on Thursday, December 17th , unless otherwise modified by the Township. This declaration is authorized by §175-58 of the General Laws of Haverford Township and will assist in snow removal and the safe passage of emergency vehicles. There will be no trash or recycling collected on Thursday, December 17th. If your trash and recycling is normally collected on Thursdays, your recycling will be collected on Monday, December 21st and your trash will be collected on Tuesday, December 22nd. LANCASTER
Vehicles must be removed from designated snow emergency routes no later than 12 p.m. on Dec. 16, or be subject to ticketing and/or towing. Vehicles may not return to snow emergency routes until the snow emergency has been lifted. Any car parked on a snow emergency route during a snow emergency will be towed. This will allow the Department of Public Works to remove snow safely and effectively from the snow emergency routes. LOWER GWYNEDD TOWNSHIP
The Lower Gwynedd Township Board of Supervisors declared a snow emergency on Wednesday that will go into effect at 12 p.m. and expire at 12 p.m. on Thursday. Click here for more information.

A snow emergency has been declared for Lower Providence Township from 9:00 am Wednesday, December 16, 2020 to 6:00 pm on Thursday, December 17, 2020 subject to change. Click here for more information.
NEW BRITAIN BOROUGH
A Snow Emergency has been declared in New Britain Borough from 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 16 to 4:00 PM on Thursday, December 17. To aid in snow removal, vehicles are not allowed to be parked on New Britain Borough roads during this timeframe. Trash collection for New Britain Borough residents on the contract with Advanced Disposal will begin around 3:00 AM so that trash and recycling are collected before the storm starts. NEWTOWN TOWNSHIP
In accordance with Ordinance 91-0-11 and amended by Ordinance 93-0-4, Newtown Township is issuing a snow emergency effective at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 until 6:00 PM on Thursday, December 17, 2020. Under this emergency, "It shall be unlawful to park, or to allow to be parked, any motor vehicle on any road or street within the Township following deposit or accumulation of ice or snow of one (1) inch or greater, in depth, until the snow has been completely plowed for the full width of the cartway." NORTH WALES BOROUGH
Effective 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, Dec.16, 2020 through 12:00 P.M. Friday, Dec.18, 2020 a 'Snow Emergency' is declared for North Wales Borough, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Due to the forecasted heavy snow fall predicted for Wednesday into Thursday (Dec 16-17, 2020) Mayor Hagan has declared a Snow Emergency effective at 5PM on Wednesday, 12/16/20, through 5PM Thursday, 12/17/20, for posted Snow Emergency Routes. Residents who routinely park along these posted roadways are to seek alternate parking for the duration of this emergency BEFORE 5PM Wednesday. All Media please be advised the Mayor of Royersford Borough has declared a Snow Emergency for the Borough of Royersford. This snow emergency is in effect at Wednesday December 16, 2020 at 10:00am. UPPER MERION TOWNSHIP
In anticipation of the upcoming inclement weather, Upper Merion Township is declaring a snow emergency, effective 3 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 16 through 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17. During a snow emergency, parking is prohibited on all designated Snow Emergency Routes, as well as on all cul-de-sacs until the snow is cleared.

UPPER SOUTHAMPTON TOWNSHIP
Upper Southampton Township has declared a Snow Emergency that will be ineffective from 10 a.m. Dec. 16, 2020 until 11 p.m. Dec. 17, 2020. During this snow emergency, it shall be unlawful at any time during the continuance of the snow emergency for any person to park a motor vehicle or to allow that vehicle to remain anywhere on any designated snow emergency route (any township street). West Chester Borough has declared a snow emergency to begin at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 and is scheduled to end on Friday, December 18, 2020 at 11:00 AM. All borough parking garages, except for the Justice Center garage are available – free of charge for the duration of the snow emergency.
