Doug Pederson On Nelson Agholor: 'Not Going To Kick To Curb'

By Andrew Porter

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Nelson Agholor continues to underperform and the fans are getting restless with the second-year receiver.

Agholor, the Eagles' first-round draft pick last year, has just 50 career catches in 22 games. On Sunday, in a big 24-15 win over the Falcons, Agholor caught just two of five targets for a mere seven yards.

Angelo Cataldi asked head coach Doug Pederson about Agholor.

"Again, I've got all the confidence in Nelson," Pederson told the 94WIP Morning Show on Monday. "That's the thing as a coach. And I know maybe people on the outside don't believe that, whatever, and want to kick him to the curb, but I'm not gonna kick him to the curb because he's one of mine. He's one of ours. And we're gonna continue to work and build his confidence. As athletes, we put ourselves in those situations mentally too where, 'Hey when the ball comes to me I'm gonna make the play.'"

Agholor, 23, would actually cost the Eagles money on their salary cap if they released him this season or even next season.

"The lineup changes, no," Pederson said when asked about any potential lineup changes at receiver. "Because right now we only have the four receivers that are active each week and we're playing and we're rotating all four guys. So no from that standpoint."

Jordan Matthews caught six balls for 73 yards, Agholor caught his two, but that was it for Eagles' receivers in Sunday's win. Dorial-Green Beckham and Bryce Treggs were not targeted.

"We just have to make those plays when we get the opportunity," Pederson said. "It is unfortunate, but at the same time we continue to keep working on those. Carson [Wentz] has to look at himself too, the protection was good, we gotta make sure the throws are right. For those plays to work it takes everybody and we just have to keep working in that area."
