At Least 4 Dead, 15 Others Injured In Several Shootings Across Philadelphia Since Thursday Afternoon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The gun violence that occurred in Philadelphia on Thursday continued into Friday. Several shootings left at least four people dead and 15 others injured.

The latest victim was a 31-year-old man who was killed early Friday morning after nearly 20 shots were fired at a car in West Philadelphia, police say. It happened along Redfield Street. 

Police say 18 shots were fired from two separate guns. The victim was taken to Children's Hospital, where he later died. Nearby homes and cars were also struck, but police say no one else was injured.

Two men were killed in Southwest Philadelphia late Thursday night. Police say they found two 32-year-old men shot multiple times on 67th Street and Greenway Avenue. Emergency crews rushed them to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where they both died.

"Thirteen spent shell casings are very close to, just a few feet away from where both of the victims had collapsed, and where both of the victims were picked up by police," Chief Inspector Scott Small said. "So that appears that the shooter, or shooters were standing very, very close to these victims when the shots were fired."

Officers are combing through surveillance footage trying to narrow down their search for a suspect.

Police say a man was left critically injured after he was ambushed by at least two gunmen in West Philadelphia.

A 33-year-old woman is fighting for her life. Police say she was a passenger in a van that was shot multiple times just after 6 p.m.

The 37-year-old male driver was also shot. He is in stable condition.

Eyewitness News was at 13th and Rockland Streets in Logan, where the van stopped.

Police say the shooting happened one mile away at F Street and Whitaker Avenue in Crescentville. They say the woman was on her way to a doctor's appointment at Einstein Medical Center. Police do not know if the victim was targeted.

Chopper 3 was over the city's Overbook section where three people were shot on the 4000 block of Wallace Street after 2 p.m. on Thursday.

Two men are in critical condition and another is in stable condition. All three were taken to Penn Presbyterian Hospital by private vehicle.

There is no word on any arrests in this case.

Another shooting, this one in Strawberry Mansion. Two people were shot on North 31st Street near Clifford around 2:10 p.m.

A man was shot three times and is in critical condition. The other man was shot four times and is also in critical condition.

Both are at Temple University Hospital.

No arrests have been made in this shooting.

In the Pennsport neighborhood, a man in his late teens of early 20s was shot once in the head and killed. He was pronounced dead at the scene on the 400 block of Manton Street just before 2:30 p.m.

No arrests have been made.

In West Powelton, an 18-year-old was shot twice in the knee just before 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon. He is in stable condition. No arrests have been made.

Meanwhile, students are urging City Council to do more to address gun violence. Chopper 3 was over City Hall where they rallied Thursday afternoon.

They want City Council to make investing in community resources a priority in negotiations over the new city budget.
