TRENTON, N.J. (CBS) — A mother of two is fighting for her life after a barrage of bullets struck her home in Trenton on Monday morning. Police believe a large caliber rifle may have been used.

The shooting happened just before 2 a.m. on the 200 block of Home Avenue. When police arrived, they found a woman shot and at least 10 shell casings.

Neighbors woke up to gunfire on Home Avenue by Orange Street in Trenton. It’s a sound some are used to hearing and a crime scene some are used to seeing.

“You see somebody got shot because you can tell,” said one neighbor. “You got the tape.”

Police say a woman was on the other side of a bullet-ridden window during the attack. She was struck in the chest and is currently in critical condition.

Police haven’t released a motive but say someone opened fire with possibly a rifle or another type of long gun.

“It’s crazy, I don’t know what happened,” said another neighbor.
