Weather: The First Arctic Blast Of The Season

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A weather pattern, more typical for the middle of Winter, will continue to develop and remain in place across the region into next week. This will give us our first shot of Arctic air this season.

If you don't like the cold, then you will enjoy Wednesday with temperatures a few degrees above average. An Arctic cold front will then pass through the Delaware Valley on Thursday and the coldest air of the season will begin to arrive.

WEATHER

On Thursday, the front may bring a few rain & snow showers with areas north of Philly having the best chance for the snow showers. High temperatures will be near average in the mid 40s.

The wind will begin to pick up Thursday night and the true Arctic air will start to invade. It will remain windy on Friday with highs only in the 30s to low 40s, but it will feel much colder with the wind.

The Arctic air settles in for the weekend with temperatures typical for the middle of January. Most locations will be stuck with highs in the 30s on Saturday and low 40s at best on Sunday and nighttime lows in the 20s.

Milder temperatures will return early next week with a storm system that will bring another chance for some showers. However, the overall pattern will remain active so more shots of cold air will continue through mid month with overall temperatures below average.
