'Black Madam' Trial Suspended When Defendant Falls Ill

By Tony Hanson

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Trial in the silicone injection murder case has been delayed until at least Wednesday because the suspect is ill and was hospitalized yesterday.

Padge Victoria Windslowe was scheduled to return to the witness stand Monday for cross-examination, but after an unexplained morning delay a court crier announced the defendant is ill.

Philadelphia Prison spokeswoman Shawn Hawes says "Miss Windslowe complained of chest pains while at the courthouse so she was taken to a local hospital."

Windslowe was admitted to the hospital and her condition has not been released.

There's a gag order, so the attorneys could not comment.

The two alleged victims in this case complained of chest pains and shortness of breath after they got silicone injections from Windslowe.

One died within hours, the other was hospitalized for several days.

Windslowe admits injecting them, but says she thought it was safe and claimed they didn't follow instructions.

She has also admitted injecting herself with silicone many times over the years.

Windslowe is charged with murder and aggravated assault in connection with her black market buttocks enhancement business.
