Eagles Hire Frank Reich As Offensive Coordinator, Agree To Terms With 15 Coaches

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- On Wednesday night, the Eagles announced that they have hired Frank Reich to be the team's offensive coordinator. The move will round out Doug Pederson's top assistants.

Pederson announced that Jim Schwartz will serve as defensive coordinator and Dave Fipp will stay with the Eagles to lead the special teams unit.

Reich has been the Chargers' offensive coordinator for the past two seasons and was fired earlier this month. Philip Rivers led the AFC with a career-high, 4,792 passing yards in 2015.

Reich's professional coaching career began in 2008 when he served as an offensive coaching assistant for the Colts. In 2009, he was promoted to quarterbacks coach. Reich played 13 seasons in the NFL as a quarterback. He was selected in the third round of the 1985 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills. That means the two primary leaders of the Eagles' offense, Pederson and Reich, are both former NFL quarterbacks.

Under Reich, the Chargers ranked fifth in passing, fourth in completion percentage and third in completions.

The Eagles announced that the team came to terms with 15 coaches. Along with Fipp, the Eagles will also be retaining notable names like Duce Staley as the running backs coach, Jeff Stoutland as the offensive line coach and Corey Undlin as the defensive backs coach among other assistants.
