Doug Pederson Officially Named Eagles Head Coach

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- It's finally official.

The Philadelphia Eagles announced Doug Pederson is the team's new head coach following days of speculation.

The Eagles will introduce Pederson at a press conference at the NovaCare Complex at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

"We are excited to introduce Doug Pederson as our new head coach," said Eagles Chairman and CEO Jeffrey Lurie.

"Doug is a strategic thinker, a compelling leader and communicator, and someone who truly knows how to get the best out of his players. All of these factors were what initially attracted us to Doug and we believe that he is the right man to help us achieve our ultimate goal."

Pederson had been working as offensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs under Andy Reid.

Wide receiver for the Chiefs and former Eagles' player Jeremy Maclin seems to approve of the move.

Prior to his tenure with the Chiefs, Pederson spent two seasons as the Eagles quarterbacks coach and helped Michael Vick become the second quarterback in NFL history to top the 3,000-yard passing and 500-yard rushing plateaus in consecutive seasons.

He also had a short stint as quarterback for the Eagles in 1999 as a back-up to Donovan McNabb.

Last week, former Eagles' head coach Chip Kelly was named the new head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.

The Eagles made the official announcement Monday afternoon.
