PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Saint Joseph’s University has merged with the University of the Sciences as of Wednesday. The merger expands St. Joe’s footprint in University City.

They celebrated the merger Wednesday morning. It gives St. Joe’s dozens of additional academic programs and includes an endowment of $500 million.

“We’ve weaved together the legacy of these founders to answer the demands of the world we live in and to better serve our students,” St. Joe’s president Mark Reed said.

Several Philadelphia landmarks will be illuminated in one of the school colors, Crimson, on Wednesday night.
