15-Year-Old Girl Found Shot To Death In Atlantic City Apartment Where Tenants Were Evicted

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. (CBS) -- A young girl is dead and police want to know who killed her. The 15-year-old was found shot to death after screams were heard coming from an Atlantic City apartment building.

Officers found the victim on the 100 block of South Massachusetts Avenue.

Neighbors say they awoke to a horrific scream Thursday morning and quickly called 911.

Inside a four-story apartment building, officers found the teen girl who was shot to death on the top floor. Authorities aren't mentioning any motive and haven't announced any arrests, but they believe it was a homicide.

"I feel very bad," landlord Zakir Hossain said. "I've been here 20 years and this never happened in this area."

The building is just one block away from the Ocean Resort Casino.

Hossain says police were in and out of the apartment where there was blood on a bedroom wall and floor. He says he wasn't aware of any teen girls living in the apartment, but the tenants were evicted and had just moved out Wednesday afternoon.

"Today at 1:30, the sheriff supposed to be coming to move out, but I see that she moved out yesterday," Hossain said. "One red truck coming up picked up her belongings and stuff."

Robert Milkewicz, who is the building's maintenance man, lives a few houses away and heard the early-morning scream. He changed the locks and cleaned up the apartment after investigators cleared the scene of a deadly crime.

"I knew something bad happened, I definitely knew something bad happened," he said.

An autopsy was scheduled for today.
