HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) — “If it’s good for one, it’s good for all.” That’s what one Pennsylvania legislator is arguing in a new proposal that would require all state lawmakers to be tested for illegal drugs.

Philadelphia County Rep. Angel Cruz submitted House Bill 620 as an amendment to Senate Bill 6, which calls for drug testing for Pennsylvanians on welfare and other state assistance programs.

“The lawmakers are the lawmakers, and we’re not above the law,” Rep. Cruz told WGAL in Lancaster.

This isn’t Cruz’s first attempt at passing similar legislation.

Cruz has previously championed three prior variations of the bill, but with no success. And with just five days left in the current session, he does not expect his amendment or the Senate bill to pass this year, either, according to WGAL.

Forget drugs, how about just an IQ test?

    1. How about BOTH; either could be contributing to their poor choices. And it needs to be enacted in all 50 states as well as in DC for the Feds.

  2. Even if they have drug testing, and some of them get caught, I’ll bet they won’t be removed.

  3. What a swift, sure way to eliminate 90% of the democrat “leadership”!

  4. Bill Surina says:

Any law that is passed by any legislature should apply to the them. I don’t think half the laws imposed on Americans would be on the books if congress had to abide them.

  5. Michael Wolfe says:

I would like to hear some of the reasons lawmakers have for not passing this law. I really don’t see a downside to it. Prior to the Exxon Valdez oil spill mariners were drug and alcohol screened upon hiring but after we were screened once a year and randomly screened throughout the year. When this practice started there were predictions that they industry would flounder do to mariners leaving the business but if anything it strengthened the workforce. Users and abusers were weeded out and many of us quit drinking and/or drugging to our advantage

  6. Kevin Sanderson says:

I am drug tested to drive a commercial vehicle or work on a State or Federal job. What makes them above the law?

  7. Bobby Cullari says:

Well, if you’re going to drug test welfare bums, why not also test these hypocritical lawmakers as well? What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

  8. Ken Schroeder says:

and test for pharmacuticals to. Cancer patents get DWI’s just taking thei prescribed medications. perhaps if a few lawmakers experianced this glaring hole in the law they would fix it. We’re suffering enough already. We don’t need any more pressure

  9. jim15936 says:

Q: How many Congressmen and Senators would pass the drug test? A: All of them, once they got a staffer to pee into the cup for them. The staff does everything, didn’t you know? Without them, they are poor, shrunken things, like jellyfish lying on the Beach, revealed to the world as the limp, frauds we briefly saw in the Kavanaugh hearings.

  10. Charlie Holman says:

the only people that shouldn’t be tested for drugs are people who work at Ad agencies.

  11. Shelly Havara says:

If you are gonna do that might as well test for alcohol as well. They should not be passing bills or legislation while impaired either. LOL pffffft

  12. Joseph McLinden says:

Anyone who is paid with taxpayer money should be drug tested. When I worked in a manufacturing environment they had random blood testing. My company said, “If we pay you…we are paying for you to be lucid and unimpaired. You signed a contract and consent form upon being hired, and the contract is still in force.” Why can a private organization insist on employees being drug-tested and the Federal Government can’t?

  13. Billy Boyardee says:

It has my vote.. while they’re at it we should also go back and review all their HS yearbooks, interview all their friends and enemies just to see if there are any unprovable allegations out there…

  14. Samuel Green says:

Instead of checking their urine for drugs, they should be tested for rabies, as Maxine Waters, Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton show all the signs of a rabid animal.

    1. Bruce Boelter says:

Rabies is a brain disease. None of those have a brain.

  15. Uhh… YES!
    About focking time!

Should have been required of any Congressman that votes a tax law on the American people.

    I support this 1000%.

  16. Sandra Isrow says:

They should do this in every state as well as in the US Congress and everyone nationwide that receives any kind of assistance.

  17. Padraig Sherm says:

Why not? Sounds good to me.

    1. Willis Forster says:

Any member who votes against it should not be vored for.
