Police: Elderly Woman Robbed At Gunpoint Outside South Philly Home

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Police say an elderly woman was robbed at gunpoint outside her home in South Philadelphia.

It happened around 9 a.m. Sunday in the 3100 block of South 20th Street.

"I was shocked I couldn't believe it," Patricia Loeber said about her mother's ordeal.

Police say the 87-year-old woman was out back of her home when she was approached by a man with a gun and a woman.

The suspects were reportedly well-dressed and asked Loeber's mother if, "This area was the Packard Park area?"

"She opened the door to say, Yes," Loeber recalled. "She thought they were asking for directions. They pushed the screen door when she opened it."

Authorities say the suspects stole jewelry from the elderly woman and ran away.

"They were kicking her, covering her mouth with their hand, telling her not to scream, and put a gun to her neck, telling her they were going to kill her if she didn't stop screaming," Loeber said.

The suspects made away with a priceless piece as well.

"They took her wedding band right off of her finger," Loeber said.

The 87-year-old woman's husband, Loeber's father, passed away just seven years ago.

"It's so hard, it's so sad," Loeber said.

Police are now investigating this violent home invasion, as Loeber and her siblings are staying by their mother side.

"My mother could've been really hurt," she said.

Authorities are asking neighbors to come forward if the witnessed the couple walking in and around the alley near the home prior to the incident on Sunday.
