Inciarte Has 3 More Hits, Braves Beat Phils 5-2 To Sweep 2

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — David Freitas lined a go-ahead RBI double for his first career hit, Ender Inciarte had three hits and the Atlanta Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-2 to complete a doubleheader sweep on Wednesday.

Julio Teheran (9-11) allowed one run and five hits, striking out eight in 6 1/3 innings.

Inciarte was 3 for 5 with one RBI after going 5 for 5 with four RBIs to lead the Braves to a 9-1 victory in the opener.

The Braves entered the day 0-8 at Citizens Bank Park this season and improved to 4-12 overall against the last-place Phillies.

Freitas put the Braves ahead 2-1 with his fourth-inning double in his second big-league at-bat. He was robbed of a hit his first time up when right fielder Nick Williams made a diving catch on his drive.

Inciarte's RBI single extended the lead to 3-1.

Philadelphia's Game 2 starter, Mark Leiter Jr. (2-4), allowed three runs and nine hits in 6 2/3 innings.

Braves starter R.A Dickey (9-8) struck out nine over eight innings in Game 1.

In the opener, Inciarte singled his first four times up and hit a two-out triple in the seventh. He walked in the ninth. He has had five hits in a game three times this season.

Braves third baseman Brandon Phillips singled for his 2,000th hit in Game 1 and extended his hitting streak to 14 games. The 36-year-old Phillips was surprised to see his mother, who made the trip from Georgia, in the stands holding a congratulatory sign and cheering on his milestone.

The Braves took out the frustration of a season's worth of defeats on Philadelphia over the first three innings, scoring eight runs. Freddie Freeman hit a two-run homer off Jerad Eickhoff (4-8) in the first.

Eickhoff left the game in the third inning because of tingling in his right arm. Eickhoff's fastball only hit 90 mph twice and the Braves pounced on the slower fastballs.

STREAKING

Phillies rookie Rhys Hoskins singled in each game to extend his hitting streak to 12. His streak of an RBI in six straight games ended in the first game.

PUT ME IN, COACH

Freddy Galvis, one of the best defensive shortstops in the majors and Gold Glove finalist in 2016, made his first career start in CF in Game 2. Galvis played 10 games in LF in 2013 and had started every game at SS this season.

TRAINER'S ROOM

Braves: C Tyler Flowers was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left wrist contusion. The Braves called up Freitas from Triple-A Gwinnett and designated RHP Enrique Burgos for assignment.

HOT STREAK

Inciarte has 172 hits overall. He's trying to become the first Brave with 200 hits in a season since Marquis Grissom had 207 in 1996. He joined Hank Aaron and Dale Murphy as the only Braves to reach base six times in one game in multiple games in a season.

COLD STREAK

The Phillies have 83 losses and need to win 14 of the remaining 30 games to avoid their first 100-loss season since 1961.

UP NEXT

Braves: LHP Sean Newcomb (2-7, 4.36 ERA) takes the mound for the start of a four-game series at the Cubs on Thursday.

Phillies: RHP Ben Lively (1-5, 4.36) starts the opener of a four-game series at Miami on Thursday.
