Pennsylvania Bids Farewell To Vehicle Registration Stickers
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A number of changes are in the offing for Pennsylvania motorists, most notably, the end of vehicle registration stickers on license plates in a few weeks.
It's all the result of transportation legislation enacted three years ago, some provisions of which are only now taking effect. Thanks in part to license plate recognition technology, those registration stickers in the corner will no longer be issued as of the end of the month, though PennDOT spokeswoman Alexis Campbell says it's probably a good idea to leave the old ones on.
"Well, if you're trying to scrape them off using tools or whatever you could damage your license plate. There's no requirement to remove them, they're just going to be ignored."
Newly issued plates will no longer have a spot for the sticker. Also, motorists will have the option of a two-year registration renewal, though it will cost double the one-year rate.
Registration and license fees could also go up a dollar next year based on Consumer Price Index data.
