Quaker School For Students With Learning Disabilities Adds Lower Grade Program
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A small private Quaker school on the mainline for students who learn differently is adding a lower grade program. Applications are being accepted now.
Delaware Valley Friends School in Paoli is a college prep-school. It was founded almost 30-years-ago for kids. who have things like dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia It initially started as a secondary school . Over time it expanded to middle school and in the fall of next year lower school will be added with 3rd and 4th grades.
Kirk Smothers is head of school and says it's all about applying the right resources.
"We know that from the consensus among researchers that early intervention really is a powerful way to improve learning of these students over their lifetimes. And so it's right around 3rd and 4th grade that students start to face academic challenges that that they might not see or it may not manifest in pre-school kinder garden or sometimes even first and second grade."
The addition of the grades will make Delaware Valley the only friends school in the Philadelphia region for students with learning differences in elementary up to high school.
