NJ Police Officers Use CPR To Revive Man, 80, At Airport
ATLANTIC CITY (CBS) -- Two New Jersey State Police officers are being credited with saving a man's life after he fell unconscious at Atlantic City International Airport Station.
Police say around 4:45 p.m. on November 25, troopers responded to the area of the rental car drop-off section of the parking garage.
A family member had called 911 after the 80-year-old man complained of dizziness then collapsed.
When Sgt. Robert Varnadore arrived, police say the victim was not breathing and did not have a pulse.
Sgt. Varnadore administered CPR until Trooper Michael Sitarik arrived.
Working together, they performed CPR on the victim and used an automated external defibrillator to shock him.
Following several minutes of CPR, the victim began to breathe and had regained a pulse.
AtlantiCare Paramedics and Atlantic City Airport EMS arrived shortly after and continued to provide first aid.
Police say the victim was taken to Atlantic City Medical Center Mainland Division where he is listed in critical, but stable condition.
New Jersey State Police say this is the second time this month officers saved a man using CPR.
They write on Facebook, "It's happened again this month! How about a great, big #AttaBoy for Sgt. Varnadore and Tpr. Sitarik for their life-saving efforts! Great job Troops!"
