Wolf Signs Beer Bill

HARRISBURG (CBS) -- As promised, Governor Wolf has signed a bill that will change the way beer is sold in Pennsylvania. Republican legislative leaders say they will continue to push for more reform of alcohol sales in the state.

The bill signed into law by Governor Wolf allows beer distributors to sell six-packs and growlers and legalizes "beer-of-the-month club" home deliveries. It comes just a few months after the governor signed legislation that eased restrictions on the sale of wine by the bottle in grocery stores and restaurants. On Tuesday, Allegheny County Republican Mike Turzai, the speaker of the House, said he wants the trend of incremental alcohol reform to continue.

"It's unleashed the notion that the private sector can do the sale of wine, spirits and beer better…and we think that there are two important notions to that," he said. "It will bring in more revenue, and it also will let the private sector flourish."

But when asked if selling off state stores will be a priority in the next session of the legislature, Turzai instead pointed to leasing out wholesale operations as a means of raising new revenue.
