Local Employees Consider Emigration Following Trump Election

by John McDevitt

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Donald Trump's victory as the next Commander-in-Chief has some Americans looking into the possibility of moving to another country.

Some employees of a tech company headquartered in Old City Philadelphia are exploring their options.

Weblinc provides software that runs the e-commerce stores for its client's businesses.

Darren Hill is the CEO and he says, since Wednesday, about 15 employees out of 130 in Philadelphia have inquired about working out of Weblinc's Vancouver office.

"We have an immigration attorney that we are happy to have help our employees and whatever they need to do to be comfortable. For an employee to work out of Vancouver for a day less than six months, very little paper work is needed. They can go up there and work as long as they then come back to the US, so some people are looking into that, and some are looking into how to do it a little more permanently," Hill explained.

And he says the cost of living in Vancouver is 15-to-17% less than Philadelphia.

"People are definitely investigating what it would cost as far as housing and that type of thing, and then we'll be as helpful as we can be with immigration," said Hill.
