In Week 6 of the NFL season, the Washington Redskins and Buffalo Bills continued to roll and quarterback Dak Prescott showed us all why he deserves to be the Dallas Cowboys starter going forward. This season, NFL fans will be able to hear even more about their favorite teams in a brand new digital show called Boomer Between the Games. Hosted by NFL on CBS analyst and WFAN radio host Boomer Esiason, the former NFL quarterback gives his thoughts on the week that was in the National Football League and chats with an all-star roster of guests about the upcoming week of games.READ MORE: Delaware County Investigators Zeroing In On Person Of Interest In 32-Year-Old Cold Case Murder Of Tyra Waiters
This week on Boomer Between the Games, former Pro Bowl linebacker Bart Scott joined the program. Scott works with Boomer on the NFL Today at CBS Sports. Bart played 11 years with the Baltimore Ravens and New York Jets, recorded 732 career tackles and gave us one of the greatest post game interviews when he said can’t wait over and over again.
This week’s episode started off with a conversation about the Washington Redskins and the biggest reasons behind their four straight victories. Bart believes the team’s hot streak begins with the defense finding its identity. Scott praised Washington for making Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz look mortal. Boomer followed up by giving credit to running back Matt Jones, who went over the century mark against Philadelphia. Both former NFL players agreed the Redskins will need to get more out of Kirk Cousins if they want to repeat as NFC East champions. Washington travels to Detroit this week to take on the 3-3 Lions.
Additionally, the two NFL on CBS colleagues discussed the issues with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The former NFL linebacker was extremely disappointed in the effort from the Steelers defense in Week 6 vs. the Miami Dolphins. While Cam Heyward missed the game, Scott didn’t believe that was an enough of an excuse to justify giving up over 200 yards on the ground to Dolphins running back Jay Ajayi. Meanwhile, Boomer emphasized the importance of Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown in helping backup quarterback Landry Jones while Ben Roethlisberger is sidelined with a knee injury. Jones threw for over 500 yards in seven games in 2015.READ MORE: Philadelphia's Mayor, Police Commissioner Host Town Hall To Address Rise In Anti-Asian Hate Crimes
The biggest storyline heading into Week 7 is the matchup between the Minnesota Vikings and the Philadelphia Eagles. Sam Bradford gets the opportunity to play his former team for the first time. Esiason told viewers to look out for a hungry Eagles defense that will want to punish the guy who used to call the shots for their team. On the other hand, Scott loves the Vikings defense and thinks this defense gives Minnesota a chance to have a very special season. The two former NFL players also provided a preview of the Ravens vs. Jets and discussed what Joe Flacco can do to bring home a win.
Finally, Boomer and Bart grabbed a fan question from Twitter. The former NFL MVP and former Pro Bowl linebacker debated whether the Pittsburgh Steelers can still win the AFC North even if Ben Roethlisberger isn’t fully healthy. Boomer simply stated that the Steelers will win the division if Big Ben can be effective after he returns. If he can’t bounce back, Esiason thinks the division race is wide open and believes the Baltimore Ravens become the favorite. Bart still has a ton of questions about his former team and wants to see progress from the offensive line and improvements in the secondary before throwing his support behind the Ravens.
Boomer Between the Games will be available every week here on CBS Local Sports. Throughout the entire season, Boomer will be joined by guests like former Pro Bowl wide receiver Mike Quick and 2x Super Bowl champ Phil Simms. Former NFL LB and CBS Sports Radio host Brian Jones will stop by next week to look back at Week 7 and look ahead to the great games in Week 8.
