PPA To Raise Rates At Center City Garages

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A parting gift from the disgraced former head of the Philadelphia Parking Authority: on his way out the door, Vince Fenerty recommended raising rates at Center City garages, and the Board approved it. Rates will go up at eight lots.
Vince Fenerty wasn't even at the meeting-- he'd resigned the day before-- but his signature is on three pages of requests for rate increases.
They vary by lot. Hourly rates at 8th and Filbert, for example, go up two dollars, daily rates go up a buck and a half at most lots, monthly rates four to ten dollars.
Acting Chief Rick Dickson concurred with the requests.
"Costs to operate these facilities, the cost to maintain them continue to escalate, we have to make sure they're self-funding. We don't have any other revenue source to pay the bills," said Dickson.
The board agreed and the increases will go into effect November first.
