Prospects Dim For Approval Of Philly Ride-Sharing Bill Before Friday Deadline

HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) -- It appears unlikely that state lawmakers will extend authorization for ride-share services in the city of Philadelphia before it expires on Friday. At least one of the major ride share companies says it will continue operating anyway.

The state Senate has already passed ride-sharing legislation and the ball is now with the House. But Montgomery County Republican Robert Godshall – who, as chairman of the House Consumer Affairs Committee, is a key player in crafting a compromise – said Monday the chance of extending authorization before the Friday deadline is "pretty slim."

A spokeswoman for Lyft says if the deadline is missed, Lyft will continue to operate in Philadelphia. But Shari Shapiro, director of Public Affairs for Uber in Pennsylvania, says Uber has not yet made a decision.

"It's in discussion, both at the city level, with our city team, and at Uber as a whole," Shapiro said.

Also expiring with that deadline would be revenues from ride-sharing fees that are going to the Philadelphia School District and the Philadelphia Parking Authority.
