Wentz To Miss Preseason Finale

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- One of the most promising parts of the Eagles preseason was supposed to be the playing time for Carson Wentz. The rookie quarterback will be forced to settle for less than one full game of work.

Wentz has still not completely recovered from his fractured rib, and will miss the Eagles' final preseason finale against the Jets. Head Coach Doug Pederson confirmed Monday that Wentz has not completely healed from the injury he suffered in the preseason opener on August 11th.

"He had a CT scan done," said Pederson. "The tenth one is completely healed. The eleventh one still shows about 60%, so there's still some injury there with him going forward."

Wentz looked sharp during warm-ups in Indianapolis on Saturday night. He was hopeful to still have the chance to play one more time in the preseason, but Wentz will be forced to sit before heading to the third spot on the depth chart for the regular season.

"It's frustrating as all injuries are," Wentz said. "I was obviously hoping to get out there one more time in the preseason, but it is what it is and I'm going to try and learn as much as I can."

Sam Bradford will also rest on Thursday, but for a much different reason than Wentz. The fourth preseason game is a chance for the top players to sit out while the backups battle for the final roster spots. Bradford can sympathize with Wentz, and was hoping his teammate would get more work in before the end of the preseason.

"I'm sure it's tough," said Bradford. "You put in so much work during the off-season to get yourself ready to be able to go out there and play. I know he was excited about getting here and learning the system. I thought he did a great job in Week One."

Both Wentz and the coaching staff are confident the rookie will be prepared if something happens in the regular season. For now, Wentz is getting ready for Pro Football 101 as he learns while Bradford pilots the offense. However, Wentz believes he will do enough classwork to get him ready for game action.

"It's frustrating to not get those reps in game situations," Wentz said. "But I still feel I'm prepared. Whenever the times comes, I'll be ready."
