Early Wake Up Call For Those Trying To Get A Workout In Before The Heat

By Tim Jimenez

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The sizzling temperatures are still hanging around as the heat wave continues in the region.

On Kelly Drive, for people working out, it was early, or nothing at all.

Angela arrived around 5 a.m. with a dozen or so people in a running group.

"We run early in the morning, first thing in the morning so we don't have to deal with the heat. Once the sun comes out it gets a little brutal for us."

How brutal? Heat index of 100 plus degrees that she says can really take some of the fun out of their workout.

From a runner to a cyclist. Joe, who drove in from Drexel Hill, enjoys summer...to a degree.

"You know 100 degrees we can do without. Give me the high 80s, low 90s. This stuff we've had the last week or so we really don't need."

And all those we spoke with this morning: the runners, walkers and cyclists, all agree on one thing: Bring on those fall temperatures
