National Night Out Is Tuesday, August 2

DELAWARE VALLEY (CBS) -- Celebrated nationally, National Night Out is an annual event that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie in an effort to make neighborhoods safer and better places to live.

Matt Peskin, executive director of the National Association of Town Watch is anticipating a bigger turnout than usual this year at events across the Delaware Valley as a result of recent police officer shootings that have happened locally and in other states.

"There's a different kind of energy from past years," noted Peskin who says more police departments and municipalities have signed up to participate in this year's NNO than in the past.

He says a lot of residents want to show their support for officers. Likewise, officers want to improve or maintain the relationship they have with their community.
