'Donkeys Around Town' Is The DNC's Version Of Pokemon Go

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Gotta catch em all... all the donkeys that is.

For once we're not talking about Pokemon Go but a newly released scavenger hunt coinciding with the the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia.

The Philadelphia 2016 Host Committee for the DNC launched "Donkeys Around Town," a game for people to play on their smartphones through the app "scavify."

The objective is simple: Find DNC Donkeys, complete tasks, win prizes.

There are 57 fiberglass donkeys in total, each hand-painted by a local artist to represent a Democratic delegation coming to the convention. Players will have to snap a picture with the donkey, answer a question about the donkey or check in via GPS to start earning points. They'll also be encouraged to share photos of their quest on social media using the hashtag #DonkeysAroundTown.

Points system:

  • 50 points (5 donkeys): Family fun pack, including tickets to Philadelphia's most popular museums, tours, attractions and eateries.
  • 150 points (15 donkeys): Choice of either an official "Donkeys Around Town t-shirt" or commemorative Visit Philadelphia magnetic photo frame.
  • 300 points (30 donkeys): Complimentary cheesesteak from Sonny's Famous Cheesesteak as well as entrance into a Grand Prize raffle for either a two-night stay at the Hyatt at the Bellevue, provided by Visit Philadelphia, and gift cards to local restaurants for each night or  the "Ultimate Philadelphia Sports Experience" which includes two tickets to a game during the 2016-17 season of each of Philadelphia's major sports teams.
  • 310-570 points (31-57 donkeys):  Extra entry in the Grand Prize raffle.

Prizes can be redeemed starting July 21 at the Independence Visitor Center at 6th and Market Streets with the Grand Prize drawing taking place on Friday, July 29.

To get started download the free scavify app to your iPhone or Android and create an account. Next, search "Donkeys Around Town" and click to join.

The contest ends Thursday, July 28 so let the games begin!
