Road Closed After Accident Involving City Sanitation Truck

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Police are investigating an accident involving an overturned city sanitation truck and a light pole in the Juniata section of the city.

The accident happened at L Street and East Hunting Park Avenue around 9:30 a.m.

According to police, the truck was traveling eastbound on L Street when an alleged compact maroon car traveling southbound entered the intersection causing the truck to swerve out of the way to avoid a collision. The truck then flipped onto its driver side and struck a traffic signal pole, mailbox and a house fence.

The 58-year-old truck driver was transported to Temple University Hospital for head, back and neck pain where he was listed in stable condition.

A 39-year-old passenger was also taken to Temple and listed in serious condition for fractures on his left forearm and possible fractured ribs.

A second 55-year-old passenger was taken to Hahnemann for minor injuries and was listed in stable condition.

The accident shut down East Hunting Park Avenue between K and Dungan streets.
