New Study Calls Traveling A Major Mood Booster

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – With summer officially here, are you vacationing anywhere?

A new study reveals what you probably already knew; traveling can boost your mood.

A survey released by Priceline.com showed that more than half of respondents said that traveling improves their attitude more than exercise or shopping.

The survey looked at 1,005 U.S adults. Thirty-eight percent of men and 34 percent of women said romantic getaways were the best vacations. But, it's Millennials who say they need to take the most trips in general.

In fact, 83 percent of Millennials would rather take multiple short getaways compared to one long getaway. These short spur-of the-moment vacations may act as a nice time-off from work, family or other life occurrences.

The survey uncovered plenty of "triggers" to plan a spur-of-the-moment getaway this year. It found that adults would be most willing to plan a spontaneous, short trip to visit friends and family – followed by seeking some "me" time and a romantic getaway.

It would take at least three to four trips this year to be happier for about 44 percent of those surveyed, and seven or more for 10 percent of respondents.

"For every trip, there's something on the line, whether it's friendship, family, or wellness," said Brigit Zimmerman, senior vice president of Air and Vacation Packages for priceline.com. "Our research tells us the number-one reason that prevents consumers from traveling is cost and we offer thousands of hotel, flight and rental car deals daily, making it easier to get to important life events, on any device, and at the last minute."

According to the findings, many adults often regret not taking a trip when the opportunity presented itself.

With July 4th weekend right around the corner, it may be the perfect time to consider a mini-vacation. We surely can't tell you what to do, but we can definitely point you in the right direction.
