PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The teen who was convicted of shooting and killing a man walking his dog in Overbrook in March 2015 was sentenced Thursday.

Tyfine Hamilton, 17, plead guilty to third degree murder for the death of 51-year-old James Stuhlman. He was sentenced 25 to 80 years in prison.

According to police, then 15-year-old Hamilton was the triggerman in the fatal shooting. They say he, along with 15-year-old Brandon Smith and a 14-year-old, were all playing basketball before they decided to rob someone.

“At one point, he did plead for his life. He said ‘please don’t shoot me’ … and they still shot him one time,” said Homicide Captain James Clark.

Both Hamilton and Smith were freshman at Overbrook High School.

Smith, who was charged as an adult, faces trial next March.

The third, 14-year-old suspect faces lesser charges.
