Phillies Open Trip Tonight In Detroit Behind Velasquez
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- The Phillies open a six-game road trip tonight with the first of three in Detroit against the Tigers.
Philadelphia just wrapped up a 5-4 homestand, closing things out yesterday with a 5-0 shutout win as Jerad Eickhoff improved to 2-6 on the season with seven shutout innings of work.
Tonight on the mound, the Phillies will turn to right-hander Vince Velasquez. He is 5-1 this season with a 2.42 ERA. Last time out he beat the Marlins, pitching five shutout innings with 10 strikeouts.
The Tigers will counter with veteran right-hander Mike Pelfrey. He is 0-4 this year with an ERA of 5.49.
