Local College Student Dies From Electrocution After Fall From Roof

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – A local college student has died after being electrocuted by a high-voltage wire.

According to State College Police, 21-year old Shannon Mathers, a Biobehavioral Health major at Penn State fell off of the roof of her three-story apartment where she was sitting on Friday after trying to reach a high-voltage wire.

She was pronounced dead at Mount Nittany Medical Center. Coroners later determined electrocution to be the cause of death and police are calling the case an accident.

"It is with profound sadness that we share news of the unexpected passing of one of our members," read a statement posted by Centre LifeLink EMS on Facebook. "Shannon was a bright young woman with a polite and easy going personality, and had planned on a future in medicine. Our deepest sympathies are with her parents, other family members, and friends in their time of mourning."

Funeral arrangements are currently underway in her hometown of Warrington.
