Trio Accused Of Attacking Gay Couple In Philly Sued By Victims

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The three people accused of beating up a gay couple in Philadelphia two years ago may face a judge again.

Zachary Hesse and Andrew Haught have filed a civil lawsuit against the trio who they say attacked them for being gay.

"They intend to show the defendants that their behavior was not just unacceptable," says the victim's attorney Andrew Youman, "but worse than unacceptable. And they intend to pursue justice to the full extent that the law permits."

Both men were hospitalized.

Kevin Harrigan, Philip Williams and Kathryn Knott were charged with Assault and Conspiracy after the September 2014 attack near Rittenhouse Square.

Williams and Harrigan made a plea deal to avoid jail time. Knott went to trial and is serving time in prison.
As for the victims…

"They are working and living their lives," says Youman, "but it's been a difficult ordeal and it's still difficult to them in a lot of ways."
