Spruce Street Harbor Park Is Open For Business

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- A Philadelphia warm-weather favorite is back. Spruce Street Harbor Park opened up for the season on Saturday, after postponing because of rain on Friday.

"We love it here," said David Kahan of Bella Vista, as he played with his son Lazarus. "Lots of good food and things for kids to do. Good for all ages."

The park's opening brought out plenty of kids and kids at heart.

"It's nice," said Carla Bagella, 7. "It's fun and it's exciting."

This year's park is loaded with even more games, including a giant Connect Four game.

"I like how there's games and the big chess and the big JENGA," said Carla's older sister, Laura.

Local favorites Chickie and Pete's and Sbraga Dining's The Little Fat Ham are new food vendors this year.

"Chickie and Pete's you can't go wrong," said Denise Garcia of Mount Laurel, NJ. "You can't find it anywhere else either which is nice. It's a Philly local thing."

The live entertainment courtesy of Philly band Stella Ruze was a big hit with the younger set.

"There's music and I love loud music and fancy stuff and nice art and seeing different things," said Monita Rijal, 7, of Lansdale.

Though the sun struggled to join the fun, the chill in the air made it the perfect day to snuggle up in a coveted hammock, if lucky enough to snag one.

"It's very nice to spend some time with your family on the hammocks and on the boats," said Laura Bagella, 11.

"It's beautiful, the lights are out, it's on the water, and for once, it's not raining out," Garcia said.

Admission to the park is free. It's open from Thursday to Sunday through September.
