Four-Way Fight To Determine Opponent For Toomey In U.S. Senate Race

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Democrats in the Keystone State will select a candidate Tuesday to face U.S. Senator Pat Toomey in the fall.

Toomey is running unopposed in the Republican primary for a second term in the Senate. He had served three terms in the House representing the Lehigh Valley prior to his election to the Senate over Democrat Joe Sestak, a former two term congressman from Delaware County who's seeking a rematch with Toomey.

Katie McGinty ran the Department of Environmental Protection for Governor Ed Rendell. Two years ago, she came up short in the primary for Governor to Tom Wolf. Both Sestak and McGinty offer some name recognition and a well-funded media campaign statewide.

A third Democratic hopeful, John Fetterman, is a married father of three and the three-term mayor of Braddock, a small suburb east of Pittsburgh. Polls have him running a distant third.

A fourth candidate is underdog Joseph Vodvarka, a small business owner and manufacturer from Clinton, near Pittsburgh. He was added back to the ballot just a week ahead of the primary after a challenge from Sestak initially had him removed.
