Worshipers Attend Holy Thursday Chrism Mass In Philadelphia
PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Holy Thursday Chrism mass was held at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul as we near Easter Sunday.
"This is the celebration of the Chrism Mass, or the Mass of Oils," Cathedral Rector Father Dennis Gill tells KYW Newsradio.
As Father Gill explains, it's a great celebration of the local church:
"Because not only is the bishop here, Archbishop (Charles) Chaput, with 700 of our priests, deacons, consecrated men and women and laypeople from all over the Archdiocese."
It's also somewhat of a reunion for priests he says:
"Also during this mass, the priests have an opportunity renew their ordination promises."
Father Gill says this is one of the most attended masses:
"It only happens once a year, every Holy Thursday morning. It's packed!"
