PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — The Philadelphia Streets Department kicked off spring cleaning Saturday at the Philadelphia More Beautiful committee annual block captain rally.

The theme of this year’s rally was ‘block pride citywide’ encouraging citizens to work together to keep neighborhoods clean.

Dawn Wood is the administrator for the Philadelphia More Beautiful Committee and says they are motivated about the challenges they face ahead.

“It’s a rally to get the block captains excited about this coming cleaning season,” Wood said.  “PMBC has our own scheduled clean ups, we encourage block captains to contact us to say ‘we want to participate.’  We hand deliver supplies for those clean ups.”

The committee also encourages people to register for the 9th annual Philly Spring Clean-up on April 9th.
