Erick Erickson On Donald Trump: 'I'm Not Voting For A Guy Like That'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - Conservative columnist, talk show host and author of the new book, You Will Be Made To Care: The War on Faith, Family, and Your Freedom to Believe, Erick Erickson broke publicly with Donald Trump and announced he will not vote for him if he wins the Republican nomination for President.

Erickson, in an interview on Talk Radio 1210 WPHT with Chris Stigall, said Trump's candidacy is a fraud and he will lose to Hillary Clinton in the general election.

"I get the anger of people out there but they are pouring their hopes and dreams and ambitions into the empty vessel of Donald Trump and they're going to get something that they don't expect and they're going to be more disaffected after Donald Trump doesn't get elected. Every poll out there that shows Donald Trump ahead that is cited by Trump supporters also shows he can't beat Hillary Clinton. He has never gotten ahead of her in the polling averages."

He does not believe Trump's character rises to the standards upheld by the Republican party.

"Donald Trump offends me at a very moral level. For a man to go out there and call himself a 'great Christian,' who reads the Bible more than anyone but has never had the need the repent, says vulgar things on the campaign trail as a presidential candidate, brags about his affairs and how he'd be sleeping with his daughter if she wasn't his daughter, I'm not voting for a guy like that."

Erickson warned that Republican primary voters are making a very serious mistake and should reconsider while there is still time..

"He's not going to win against Hillary Clinton. Whether I vote for him or not, he's not going to do it. He can't because of demographics, among other reasons. I want people to understand, in addition to the insurmountable challenges he already has, there are a lot of conservatives who won't vote for him. So if they still want to go down this road and make him the nominee, it's on them. It's not on me. I want to be very up front and disclose this to them while they still have a chance to change their mind. But given the choice of a liberal who supports Planned Parenthood and socialist government healthcare and Hillary Clinton, that's not a choice for me."
