Times Are Changing In One Delco Town

MEDIA, Pa. (CBS) - It's a time of transition for Media, Delaware County. Several long-running businesses have closed or switched hands during the past year.

Media's iconic Towne House restaurant shut down in October after 65 years in business, leaving behind many memories.

"We would go to the Towne House after we were done work," says Dee -- who has lived in Media for 40 years. "You just knew that there was a core set of people that was always here."

Which is part of why Media is known as "Everybody's Hometown." But some, including Dee, are concerned that Media is losing it's charm:

"It doesn't quite feel like the small town that it used to be, where everyone knew everyone."

Resident Debbie Mishler says the change will be good as long as the new businesses realize Media is tight-knit town:

"If they don't embrace that, then they aren't going to survive cause that's just the way it is here."

The local watering hole -- the Plumstead Inn -- was where much of this mingling happened over the past 55 years, but they've recently had their final last call.

Nancy Hay works at Deal's Variety Store in town.

"It's sort of the end of an era," she says, "especially with the Towne House and the Plumstead."

And the Granite Run Mall, which was part of the Media landscape since 1974, is now being demolished.

"But like everything, sometimes change is good," adds Nancy.
