Montgomery County's New First Assistant District Attorney Is Sworn In

NORRISTOWN, Pa., (CBS) -- Montgomery County's new First Assistant District Attorney is sworn in, officially making the move across the county-line from Philadelphia.

Ed McCann spent more than 25 years in the Philadelphia District Attorney's office, the last four as first assistant. He makes the move to Montgomery County where he says he looks forward to working with District Attorney Kevin Steele.

"He's been a friend and colleague of mine for a long time have a tremendous amount of respect for the office, there's a lot of really great talented people here and I'm thrilled to be here," McCann.

McCann says one of his passions is battling child abuse, especially after handling the neglect case of Danieal Kelly, the 14-year-old who weighed just 46 pounds when she died.

"A lot of the reforms that happened in the Child Protective Services system were a direct result of the case that I worked on with so many good people in Philadelphia so obviously the safety of children is very important to me," said McCann.

Another cause he says he'll work on, is working to strengthen the bond between community and law enforcement.
