What's In Store For Sunday's Lineup Of Super Bowl Spots?

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Super Bowl is considered the biggest marketing event of the year, as well as the costliest at $5-million dollars for an ad.

Charles Taylor -- a Villanova Professor of Marketing and Super Bowl ad expert -- says advertisers are doing an about-face from 2015:

"Some people called it the 'somber bowl.' So there's a clear trend this year towards a lighter, more humorous tone."

You'll also notice more celebrities, he says, such as Serena Williams:

"Just in the ads that have been released already there's gonna be at least 35 celebrities in this year's Super Bowl, which is quite a bit up from the past few years."

Did you catch that reference to pre-released ads? Taylor says it's become a growing online trend:

"In the hopes that it goes viral before the game and then the idea is that people will see it during the game and hopefully will continue to share the ad and tweet about it."

Another developing trend, he says, is real-time advertising on YouTube courtesy of Website developer Wix:

"If one of the teams scores a touchdown, Wix can have an ad designed to mention that. When anybody goes to YouTube before they're able to watch a video they'll have to watch that Wix ad."

Overall 50 minutes of spots will be shoehorned into the 60 minute game.
