Christmas Village Closes For Season After Unseasonably Warm Month

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) - The Christmas Village at LOVE Park in Center City closed Sunday night, with merchants saying the warm weather this year was good for business.

A record-shattering December with warmer temperatures drew larger crowds. But Michael Wolinski says selling hats and gloves when it's 70 degrees outside isn't ideal:

"In certain respects it's difficult. In other respects, it's good because the quantity of people is much higher than last year."

He's been setting up shop for five years, and says this was his best one yet:

"I think we got a lot of stocking stuffers accomplished for a lot of people, so making people happy was great."

A few doors down, Anna Savostenia says there was a lot more foot traffic this year and the warmer weather made working a little more enjoyable:

"Shopping is easier when you're not freezing, you know. So people are glad to just walk and have fun and spend some money, of course, so we're more than glad the weather is good."

Still, shoppers like Mark from Downingtown were wishing for a white Christmas:

"I'd rather have it 30 degrees. It makes it a little bit more Christmasy with the colder weather."

Well... there's always next year, Mark.
