A March And Fundraiser For The Fallen To Be Held In South Jersey This Weekend

HADDONFIELD, NJ (CBS) -- A veterans advocacy group is holding a grueling marathon march and fundraiser at Haddonfield High School this weekend to support programs that help reduce veteran suicides.

"Twenty-two men or women a day in our military commit suicide."

Brian Poliafico, of the non-profit group Active Heroes, says volunteers will hold a 22-hour march around the high school's track through Saturday afternoon.

"And we'll do so carrying ruck sacks which is symbolic of the weight and the burden that our veterans carry with them. These ruck sacks will anywhere from 30-50 pounds."

This is the third Carry the Fallen event this year as Active Heroes raises funds to build a 144 acre retreat for vets and their families in Shepardsville Kentucky.

"And its gonna be a place for military veterans and their families to go to receive non-clinical treatment and really just get the help that they need as a family unit."
