PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — If you plan on doing any shopping in Philadelphia on Saturdays from now through New Year’s Day, you’re in luck.

The Philadelphia Parking Authority is giving shoppers a little present. Free parking.

“The on-street parking at our meters and kiosks, after 11 o’clock on Saturday, are free each and every Saturday, from Thanksgiving until New Year’s. It is a promotion we do in Center City and the outlying business districts,” said PPA Executive Director Vince Fenerty.

He says all Parking Authority garages will offer a flat rate of $8, for as long as you like. Fenerty says it’s an effort to encourage holiday shopping in the city.
