Stallone Says He Was A "Terrible" Choice For Rocky: 'I Just Got Lucky'

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – When you think of the movie "Rocky," Sylvester Stallone immediately comes to mind.

Stallone was Oscar nominated for both his acting in the film and writing in the screenplay.

So many were surprised when he said on "Late Night With Stephen Colbert" that he was a "terrible" choice to play Philadelphia's favorite boxer.

Colbert: 'Was it hard to convince the people putting up the money that you should be the person playing the part?'

Stallone said, "One hundred percent. I doubted myself. Are you kidding? They basically said over our dead body. At that time you had a lot of young actors who are energetic, everyone fancied themselves as a fighter… So they said 'who is that guy with the crooked mouth? Forget him. He can be used in the gym scene.'"
