Thousands Attend Pennsylvania Conference For Women In Philadelphia

By Rahel Solomon

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- More than 7,000 people attended the Pennsylvania Conference for Women at the Convention Center Thursday. At least 30 entrepreneurs also pitched their business ideas to a panel of experts from the QVC.

"Any kind of creative, anybody that's a tinkerer, anybody that has a new spark of an idea, open and available with a completed product," QVC Program Host Albany Irvin said.

Bucks County mom Pattie Lerner sells Sweet Megan cookie dough and cookies that are all natural.

"It's all top eight allergen free," Lerner said.

Among the feedback from the QVC experts was that Lerner further research her product's price point- one jar of cookie dough goes for $12.99.

Lerner is part of a growing trend with one recent study suggesting more and more women are going into business for themselves because of a lack of fair pay or promotion in the workplace.

"We need to level the playing field and we have done a lousy job of that throughout this country," said Pennsylvania Governor Tom Wolf.

Lerner said she began baking for her daughter who has severe food allergies but hopes her success makes her niece Megan proud. Megan died in 2008 after a brain tumor.

"I so hope she's proud," Lerner said.
