Mermaids Swim With Sharks At Camden's Adventure Aquarium

CAMDEN, N.J. (CBS) -- Weeki Wachee Mermaids traveled up the East Coast from Florida and are swimming with sharks this weekend at the Adventure Aquarium in Camden.

"It is magic!" Kimberly Perno with the aquarium says they brought back this attraction because it was so popular last year.

"I'm watching a mermaid swim in our ocean realm exhibit.  She's got a pink sparkly tail on."

Hammerhead sharks and stingrays don't phase Mermaid Desiree one bit. She wanted this job ever since she visited the Weeki Wachees as a little girl. Interacting with children is her favorite part.

"The look in their eyes, because they really believe it, and it's magical to them," she said. "It kind of reminds me of how I felt when I was a kid and I saw it."

That look of amazement took over 10-year-old Emily's face when she first laid eyes on a mermaid swimming among the sea creatures.

"Sharks and turtles and stuff. It's pretty awesome!"

The mermaids will be in town this weekend and next. Their show is included with aquarium admission.
