Senate Panel To Study Whether Kane Can Function As AG
HARRISBURG, Pa. (CBS) —Pennsylvania's top state senator today announced the formation of a panel that could lead to the removal of embattled Attorney General Kathleen Kane, who is facing criminal charges stemming from alleged leaks of grand jury information.
In September, the state Supreme Court announced the suspension of Attorney General Kane's law license, but that suspension did not take effect until this week.
Now that it has, Republican Joe Scarnati, the Senate president pro tempore, said in a telephone news conference Friday, that a bi-partisan committee will have the thirty days to determine if Kane can continue as attorney general.
"This committee is tasked at looking at her ability to perform her functions with an indefinitely suspended law license and any other areas that may impact her performance. We're going to see exactly now what impact this has on that office."
Findings of the committee could result in what's believed to be a never before used process in the state constitution after which Kane could be removed following a two-thirds vote of the Senate.
