Police: Pedestrian Struck, Killed By DUI Driver In Delaware
ODESSA, Del. (CBS) -- Police say a man is dead after being struck by a DUI driver in Odessa, Delaware.
It happened around 2 a.m. Saturday along DuPont Parkway near Middletown-Odessa Road.
Police say the 43-year-old victim was walking in the road when he was struck by the driver of a Chevrolet Suburban. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The name of the victim was being withheld pending the notification of his family.
Authorities say the driver, 40-year-old Shawn Russell of Dover, fled the scene but was apprehended a short time later. He has been charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of a fatal motor vehicle crash and other offenses.
The road was shut down for three hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.
