Police Investigate Double Shooting In Olney

By Justin Finch

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – Authorities say a 23-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman are in the hospital after shots broke out in Olney overnight.

It happened around 12:30 a.m. at the 400 block of Elkins Street.

Police say an argument started in the 55 North bar at 5th and Olney streets. The fight spilled onto the streets and a man started firing a gun.

Police say 23-year-old man was shot in the chest, the bullet piercing his lung. He was taken by medics to Einstein Medical Center. His condition is unknown.

Authorities say the female was shot in the thigh and lower abdomen. She was was also transported to Einstein, treated and released.

"The scene is filled with broken glass from the fight, other trash and other debris," says Chief Inspector Scott Small, "so it makes it pretty hard to find the shell casing."

Only one semi-automatic shell casing was found, but police know five shots were fired.

"We believe that everyone who was shot and the shooters were all inside the bar prior to the shooting taking place." says Small. "Now we know there are cameras in the bar so hopefully they were recorded before this incident took place inside."

Police say witnesses pointed out the alleged shooter who fled the scene while being pursued by authorities. Officials say the offender was seem dropping a pistol onto the ground and was apprehended.
