Dozens Of Child Support Offenders Arrested In Burlington County

BURLINGTON COUNTY, N.J. (CBS) -- Sheriff's deputies in Burlington County fanned out this week and rounded up more than 4 dozen people, mostly on charges of failing to meet court ordered support payments.
Burlington County Sheriff Jean Stanfield says this was part of a statewide effort.
"Our initial aim was to get child support offenders," Stanfield says. "These are people who have failed to pay their child support and a bench warrant's been issued. In addition to that, we did have a number of people that have fugitive warrants that were also included in this group."
8 fugitives were picked up. In all, 52 people were either arrested or turned themselves in.
Stanfield concedes they didn't get much money up front. All told, over 940 thousand in child support was owed. But most of those arrested worked out payment plans to get up to date, and stay out of jail.
So she expects most of that money to come in over time.
