Homemade "Pope-Themed" Products On Sale To Benefit Homeless Non-Profit

PHILADELPHIA (CBS) -- Project Home is beefing up its homemade product line with special items designed specifically for the World Meeting of Families in September. One hundred percent of the proceeds will help the non-profit keep the homeless employed.
From t-shirts to sheep-shaped soap or "Pope Soap" and candles inscribed with Pope quotes, the homemade products are meant to inspire and to employ.
"Our homemade gift line employs more than 40 residents."
Scarlett McCahill is the social enterprise manager and says project home residents make the products during under the direction of artisans, then they sell them at the Project Home Boutique, Free Library Cafe and, of course, online, giving these residents a steady paycheck.
"For people who have been homeless and people on the margins who are low income, having a job and earned income is a great way to restore people's dignity and sense of self."
McCahill expects more jobs during the World Meeting of Families and the Papal visit. The non-profit is working to open kiosks along the Parkway, an effort that will employ a dozen more people.
